Associate Director Makes a New Play

6-27-2007

Take a look at John Liebenthal's resume and you'll be impressed by a career that spans six companies and stints ranging from copywriter to creative director. Under personal interests, you'd learn that he's a retired classical guitarist and poker player, wannabe screenwriter, and volunteer in drug and alchohol recovery. But Oliver Russell's newest associate director keeps all of this pretty close to the vest. Previously a senior writer here, he's much more interested in sharing his vision for the agency as co-director. "Our goal is to keep the work outstanding, ensure the creativity is relevant, and find new ways to make the business fun."

Before joining Oliver Russell in 2006, John was associate creative director for The Kern Organization in Los Angeles. After a strong taste of So-Cal, John returned to the OR roost, having previously worked here for two years. He's been creative director for the Boise office of Publicis, marcom manager and broadcast advertising director for MicronPC, advertising copywriter for Floathe Johnson, and senior marketing writer at Micron Technology.

This Intern’s Right on Target

At least she is now. After a stint in the management training program for Target Stores, Annie Fuller realized her future lay in Boise, not Minneapolis. She spends her days supporting Oliver Russell's account services team and, in her free time, planning her September wedding in Stanley...or Riggins...or wherever she won't get double-booked.

A Boise State University communications graduate, Annie says she'd happily be a professional student and may pursue her master's someday. For now, we think we hit the bullseye with this intern.

She’s a Dance-Dance- Dance-Dance-Dancing Machine

Watch her get down! Neurolux regular Bethany Walter says she's the first gal on the dance floor and the last to leave. We like that mentality. Our graphic design intern's second love - after club dancing, natch - is visual communications, an interest she got into through photography. Hailing from Idaho Falls, Bethany graduated from Boise State University with a degree in graphic design and a marketing minor. Catch her rhythm at Oliver Russell this summer...or a dance floor near you.

Deliver Magazine Names Oliver Russell as “Top Picks” Winner

5-10-2007

Deliver magazine, the magazine of the U.S. Postal Service, has named Boise-based Oliver Russell and partner Montage Graphics as its first annual "Top Picks" contest winner for direct mail marketing. The "Top Picks" contest invited marketers across the country to submit projects that demonstrate the success and benefits of strategic direct marketing campaigns. The winners were announced in the May issue of Deliver magazine, distributed to more than 350,000 readers.

The winning entry was designed by Oliver Russell and printed by Colorado-based Montage Graphics using state-of-the-art PhotoText technology. It featured an inviting graphic of a latte with the recipient's name spelled across the foam in cinnamon sprinkles. Targeted at executive assistants, the personalized invitation arrived in a clear envelope and promised a premium coffee card for completing an online survey about printer hardware and supplies purchases. The campaign generated an impressive twenty percent response rate.

The final piece had a wow effect even inside OR where it received this year's Big O award for best creative project. "In the direct marketing arena, where often you get a bad rap for not being creative, this campaign turns that stereotype on its head," said OR President Russ Stoddard.
